Who Will Cast the Last Stone?

Rumor has it that "stoning" is making a comeback in the Missouri Baptist Convention. Well, maybe not literal stoning but the denominational equivalence.

In case you're wondering whether you're a "stoner" or a potential "stonee", here's the way it's going these days in the Missouri Baptist Convention.

If you've ever been reluctant to say Jesus changed water into non-alcoholic wine or at the very least watered down wine at Cana.........
You will be stoned.

If you've ever watched and discussed the spiritual implications of a movie like "The Bucket List" with a group of believers in an official church meeting........
You will be stoned.

If you've ever scheduled an outreach meeting at a restaurant or other establishment for the purpose of engaging the culture with the gospel, and alcohol was being sold or consumed.....
You will be stoned.

If you hold a favorable impression of the Acts 29 Network, The Journey Church in St. Louis, Mark Driscoll or Darrin Patrick.......
You will be stoned.

If your church supports an Acts 29 network Church........
You will be stoned.

We already know who is willing to cast the first stone. The question is "Who will be willing to cast the last stone?"

Stay Tuned for new and developing Stoning Offenses in the MBC.

Looks like I better get my stone-proof vest! Or perhaps that I should be thankful I live in Arkansas. Praying for all my brothers and sisters in the Missouri Baptist Convention.

Thanks for being willing to be stoned. You are a true friend, brother, and mentor for whom I am very, very grateful.

I have been cut to the quick! After reading each of your topics I have discovered that I am guilty of every single one of them but that does not bother me. What bothers me is that I now must say "I am STONED". I will go through this day with a cut quick.

Jim,
Who is stoning who here? It appears to me that the righteous in Jesus who are standing for righteous Christian character, and Christ like living are the "Stonees",
It seems to me like a case of Isaiah 5:20.
Most of what I have heard concerning Christians in drinking establishments and witnessing is on a positive note; with the exception of when a church group goes in to be one with the people. By that I mean joining in their drinking and carousing.
There is no Acts 29 in the Bible. It is an addition to it.

Tim,

There is no Convention in the Bible either.

I think we would agree that Acts 29and the MBC are both para-church organizations.

The local church was the only body birthed by our Lord and Savior.

I think the most telling sentence in your comment is "most of what I have heard is positive".

I challenge you to go and talk personally to an Acts 29 pastor.

You may not be getting the full story from your sources.

I too have become disillusioned with this nonsense. I'm tired of being intruded upon at the associational level as well. Since when did we as Baptists become such creedal people that allow an unbiblical ecclesiastical hierarchy strong-arm the autonomy of the local church? I've been a Baptist all of my life and about to give up on it all together...because of these Pharasaic stone-throwers.
